I love Glen Echo Park! I enjoyed it with my parents and my children. I supported Glen Echo by covering the park’s features in my magazine, Washington Home and Garden. My opponent, the incumbent Brian Frosh, likes and supports it too. He listed his effort to get funding from the state of Maryland for Glen Echo Park as one of his major accomplishment in his 23 years in the Maryland legislature. That might be impressive except that during the same time period Baltimore got state funding for a 220 million dollar football stadium. They gave the team free use of the stadium to attract the Cleveland Browns to become the Baltimore Ravens. Bethesda can’t get money to replace trailers with classrooms, Bethesda can’t get money for an underground Purple line to save the Crescent Trail and we’ll have to pay over $11 for a rush hour commute on the Inter County Connector but Baltimore gets a free football stadium! My opponent, Brian Frosh, likes to say; “How can I ask for more money for Montgomery County schools when Baltimore’s needs are so great?” Who NEEDS a football stadium? That makes sense only if you think a football stadium in Baltimore is more important than classrooms in Bethesda. Otherwise, it’s ridiculous.
No wonder Montgomery County Council President, Nancy Floreen said “Our delegation to Annapolis (Senator Brian Frosh) hasn’t brought home the bacon.” Sure the did. Bethesda Senator Frosh brought home the bacon but he brought it home to Baltimore!
If Elected I will Advocate
If elected, I will ensure that Montgomery County receives the hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenue it deserves from the state of Maryland. Many of the incumbent legislators representing Montgomery County have been awarded leadership positions in Annapolis precisely because they have advocated less for our county. In doing so, they vote away our interests and do not fight for our needs.
The incumbent Senator, Brian Frosh, is one who has taken more of a state focus at the expense of Bethesda and Montgomery County. If he is exposed on this issue and replaced by me, then all legislators from Montgomery County will change their past behavior of selling out the county. They will have to change or face losing their seats. We have the most representatives in state government. That is a lot of power. Our co-operation will be dependent on getting our fair share of state revenue. This election will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Montgomery County. See www.CaveForSenate.com for more.
I am completely innocent of selling out Montgomery County by every Montgomery County Delegate and Senator, with the exception of Senator Rona Kramer. I am not an incumbent who has caused the problems we are trying to cope with today. Albert Einstein said, "The thinking that caused the problem cannot solve it." I will fight for the county and I will expose the Delegates and Senators who do not advocate for the county once I am in Annapolis. This election will change the thinking of every representative from the county.
Fundraising...Another Form of Taxation
A mother of several public school students made an excellent point yesterday. She said our community chips in and either donates, provides fundraisers, or just pays to make up for the things the schools don’t have rather than do without. This can range from sports to academics to other extra curricular activities. This is just another form of taxation that the local community has to pay because our enormous tax burden is levied on us and then distributed elsewhere to buy votes and keep the incumbents in power. In other words, we paid for the schools in Montgomery County, Baltimore City, one or two other counties, and then we get to pay again in Montgomery County. I can’t figure out where our $1 billion budget deficit came from. Could this formula be part of it? Ya think? See www.caveforsenate.com for more.
A lot of people in the Washington suburbs (your humble blogger excluded) look down their noses at Baltimore. These Washingtonians, many of whom live in Montgomery County, think they are smarter and more sophisticated than Baltimore.
If they only knew.
Baltimoreans are having the last laugh every day at the expense of Montgomery County. Baltimore takes Montgomery to task every year in state funding. Montgomery County pays the state and Baltimore collects from the state. It is Montgomery’s money they are collecting.
Baltimore spends even more than Montgomery on schools (spending $16,619 per student per year vs. Montgomery with $16,310 per student per year). However Baltimore only spends $2,685 of their money and Montgomery spends $11,060 of theirs. The rest is made up by the state funds which predominately come from Montgomery County.
The net result is that Montgomery spends 4 times as much of their money to educate their students than Baltimore spends of their money.
Who is smarter now?
Health Warning Republicans & Independents most at Risk!
Part 1
The most significant symptom of why Montgomery County is under-served in state funding to Annapolis is “give up-itis.” It is a contagion that has gripped otherwise healthy adult members of our community for decades.
People believe that a Republican can never be elected to office in Montgomery County. That is only true as long as we believe that it is. That day is over. The electorate is not just open to new leadership they are yearning for it.
The message of the Cave for Senate campaign appeals to Democrats, Republicans & independents. The only way it doesn’t work to win this election is if the Republicans in our community wallow in hopelessness and helplessness. This is the year the independents and independent minded Democrats are open to a moderate Republican message on fiscal responsibility.
Fortunately, we are getting great support from young folks and adults in our community who recognize that this is the year we can elect an independent, fiscally responsible candidate who will not take NO for answer from Mike Miller on getting Montgomery County her fair share of state funding especially for education.
However there still some people who are still indulging in give up itis. We need their support. Seewww.caveforsenate.com for more information.
Health Warning Democrats also at Risk!
Part 2
Give up-it is a disease that has plagued Montgomery County for decades for all political parties. Most Montgomery County residents realize that some of our money goes to Baltimore and other counties instead of returning to our county at the same rate as the rest of Maryland.
This year everyone is realizing that we can no longer afford this exodus of our hard earned money because we have unsustainable $BILLION DEFICITS projected to occur every year in Montgomery County. At least half of this problem is a result of not getting our fair share from Maryland. We are underfunded for education alone to the tune of 308,000,000 which is 31% of our deficit on this one issue alone!
So many people, Democrats included, have given up on the idea that we can fix this and get a more equitable allocation from the state. They are wrong.
Montgomery County has 32 member of state government. That is the most of any county. We have the power to ask even insist on being treated better. We just need to ask for it. It is really simpler than that. We need only one Republican representative to Annapolis from Montgomery County to be elected on this issue and then all the other Montgomery County elected officials will enthusiastically get behind the effort to get Montgomery County her fair share. They will have to or face being thrown out of office themselves.
There has never been less reason to engage in give up-it is than right now. Fortunately it is a disease you can put in remission with a change of attitude and a new course of action. Realize you can make a difference and support our campaign to get elected on the issue to get Montgomery County her fear share and then get behind our campaign. It is that simple. See www.CaveForSenate.com for more information
D.C. complains that they don’t have any elected representation that can vote. At least they know they don’t have any. Montgomery County, Maryland thinks they have representation when they really don’t have any. And then you have nearby Baltimore that has double representation.
Montgomery county Council president said the “Montgomery County representatives don’t bring home the bacon” in terms of state funding in spite of the fact that that Montgomery county funds most of the state.
One look at the budget and you can see that the money goes to Baltimore. In effect the Montgomery County delegates and senators such as Brian Frosh act as a second set of representatives for Baltimore. Montgomery county state senator Frosh won’t even ask for Montgomery county students to be funded saying “How can I ask for more money when Baltimore needs it.” Baltimore receives over $11,000 in state funding for every student from the state of Maryland and Montgomery receives $4,500.
In essence Baltimore has their duly elected representatives and then they have the ones duly elected by Montgomery County.

I finished calling on every home in Cabin John Maryland for my campaign for the state Senate and I have some interesting observations. People care a lot about their schools whether their children go to Whitman Pyle, Little Flower or St. Bart’s. They are not happy about Montgomery county schools being underfunded and services being cut back. Many know that our money has gone to Baltimore but many didn’t know how bad it is. That aside the neighborhood is a great place to raise a family. There was a big pig roast going on and people were having a ball in spite of the heat. This is a neighborhood where you can find great front porches. It is nice that the new houses put them on as well as the older homes. And they are real front porches. Not the narrow ones put on for appearances only but nice deep ones with plenty of room to practice front porch sittin’ and relaxin’.
